Every day visits*
From Moose, Goose, and Orb Weaver
All seized by Haiku

"Why moose and goose?" you may ask. Back on 2/04/13 Pirate wrote a haiku with an elk in it, and I responded with
one with a moose and then included him every day. A few days later in comments Mystic asked "Where's the goose?"
So I started including her with this post on 2/07. A week later on the 14th, Mark Readfern
asked for and received a spider. The rest is history.

*Well, most days, anyway. Grant me a bit of poetic license.

Sunday Wordle 197 and Imaginary Garden Flash 55

The Wordle words

day   race   state   spend
spread   rescue   tickling   humility
cloud   patron   measure   host

Flash 55 from The Garden - Plus

Imagined by Kerry O'Connor:
"I promised to add an optional extra every month, for those who prefer some direction for their writing to take. This time I have decided to share a form I devised (based on the Robert Herrick Stanza which we explored as a mini-challenge in 2012) which has exactly the correct number of words needed to complete this challenge.

Word count: 8 – 6 – 8 – 6 – 2 – 6 – 2 – 5 – 7 – 5"

DEMOCRACY

the day of the race for state office
look what they spend to spread
a tickling word salad designed to cloud judgment
spewed with little thought no thought
of humility
only to give each rich patron
his measure
never to rescue the voters
that angry ignorant flock of bleating sheep
that host of fatally uninformed

 ~~::~~

I wrote this in under 5 minutes.  Sadly, it is not a work of fiction.

  1. This piece has great flow - an observation about the state of politics which unwound from the writer's pen. I keep half an eye on American politics and noted that a grabbing for donors has begun.

only to give each rich patron
    his measure
    never to rescue the voters...

Sad, but true in most cases. Money talks when it comes to politics.

  2. Alas.. the voters a flock of sheep..what can I say. Politicians are like that?.. Bought for those that pay the most?.. but I guess that it could be worse.. not voting at all.

  3. This is sadly accurate. Well penned (or typed) observations.

  4. Sadly, this is most definitely NOT a work of fiction....the word salad designed to cloud judgment is served and gobbled up far too often in the name of democracy! Great word choices and imagery here.

  5. Sheep we way be, but rams have horns, and sometimes we bounce those bozos right out of office.

  6. Politicians have long taken their electorates for fools. And we with not much alternative keep voting.

  7. Yes! A perfect poem to begin the legislative session here in Oregon and surely most other states. Fingers crossed that they play well together and get something of substance completed!

  9. Oh my, you have hit the nail on the head with fatally uninformed.

  10. A sad grab, finally done, but then, I am of the uninformed! I am uninformed at how to stop the money grabbing campaigns.

  11. "fatally uninformed" says it all. Great poem.

  12. I just noticed that purplepeninportland quoted the line I was about to cite. Oh well, here it is again "that host of fatally uninformed" tells all kinds of stories (and must of them infuriating).

Great flow. It reads as a soliloquy that makes those who get to eavesdrop shake their fists. *shaking my fist and baring my teeth*

  13. I think that this poem was fun because of the extra challenge of the word table you used. I also enjoyed the truth behind what your poem was saying. Politics have never been my forte, but I enjoy watching it all the same.
